Belatra Games has come up with a unique spin on the typical bank robber theme that we see with slots from time to time, and that's the basis of the Piggy Bank slot. When you first look at this game, you'll notice that it has a funny take on a bank heist with cartoonish villains and more. While the graphics aren't anything to write home about, they definitely get points for their approach to the theme. The gameplay itself isn't too exciting either, but this is standard fare for a high-volatility slot that centers primarily around trying to stay afloat long enough to hit one of the biggest prizes.
Format and Layout
The layout for this game is based on a pretty old approach with five reels, three rows and nine paylines. Players can choose from various bet sizes going as low as $0.09 per spin, and the maximum may depend on where you're playing from since different casinos can set different maximum bet sizes for their games. We mentioned above that this game has a high volatility, and that means you should probably play with a smaller bet size than what you're used to. This will help you to keep the swings from getting out of hand.
Piggy Banks Bonus Round
There is a piggy bank symbol that appears on all reels, and getting three or more of this guy on the reels activates the Piggy Banks bonus round. You'll get the villain robber on the screen smashing piggy banks with a hammer, and there are three different things you can earn from each bank: a key, free spins or an instant payout. You get to keep going in this feature until the policeman shows up and arrests the robber, at which point the bonus feature ends.
If you pick up a key, then you go straight into the Safes Bonus round. This gives you a chance to pick from a few different safes to break open to get larger instant win prizes. You are guaranteed a win worth at least 10 times your total bet here, which is like a 250x line bet pay, so it's clear that they're serious about giving you value with this feature.
Finally, players will play out any free spins that they accumulated during the feature. Something that adds a lot of value to the free spins is that you'll get one reel that's randomly completely wild for the entire feature. It'll start in one position and move to the right one spot for each spin. Once it gets to the fifth reel, it'll move back to the left one position for each spin in the same way. It'll keep shifting back and forth in this way until the free spins are finished, so you get a wild reel in different positions on every single turn.
Major Jackpots and Payouts
The policeman is the top-paying symbol in the game. Five of a kind pays a very strong 10,000x jackpot payout. You can also earn 2,500x for five of the wild wanted poster symbol. A 1,000x win is yours for four of the policeman, and those are all of the largest wins.
Players can also pick up 200x for five of the key symbol or 100x for five of the safe or hammer. The robber, coins, getaway car and cash all pay 30x or less for five of the same symbol on a payline, which are pretty small wins, and the lopsidedness of the pay table is the major reason for this game having such a high volatility.
Our Thoughts
Belatra's Piggy Bank slot doesn't have the best graphics, and the gameplay is pretty straightforward and fairly bland. The theme is a bit different, which we definitely give them credit for, but the game as a whole is decidedly average with nothing that really stands out on a major level to drive players to enjoy it. With that having been said, the bonus feature does have numerous facets, and that gives it a bit more depth than what we typically see with features along these lines, but that's not enough to carry the slot as a whole. Overall, we can definitely see the vast majority of players deciding to skip this one.
