NetEnt had a major hit on its hands when it launched the Spinata Grande Video Slot. Initially released in March 2015, the colorful and festive Mexican theme quickly rose to the top and subsequently won the “Game of the Year” award from eGaming Review (EGR). The game, based on the piñata, was also the first of the provider’s games to debut the Colossal Symbol. Piñatas are a fixture at Mexican parties known to keep both kids and adults entertained as they take swings to break open candy bearing vibrant paper figures. This version is definitely geared for an adult audience and may even spark a craving for a margarita.

    The Goods on Spinata Grande

The 20-line Video Slot includes animal spinata symbols including a red bull, pink donkey, green and yellow parrot and a blue fish. Additional symbols include A, K, Q, J and 10. The animal spinatas are the highest paying symbols with the bull worth the most at 300 coins for 5 on an active payline. Classic mariachi music plays as the reels spin, party balloons float away, sombrero wearing civilians walk by and cars go back and forth in the background.

Betting is available in 10 levels as with all NetEnt Slots. An additional coin is wagered per line with each increased level and the coin values range from 0.01 to 1.00 creating a minimum bet of 20 cents to $200 per spin. Players can win as much as 120,000 coins.

    Special Features

The Colossal Symbol is made up of symbol blocks of 2x2 or 3x3 appearing as an overlay on the reels. It can land anywhere and is represented by all symbols during the base game. During the free spins bonus the Colossal Symbols include the Colossal Bonus, Colossal Wild and 3x3 animal spinatas.

The Colossal Bonus is represented by a sombrero clad slot machine. When this appears on the reels, a decorative bat will take a swing and the Mini-Slot feature is triggered. The Mini-Slot may be made up of 3, 6 or 9 symbols. Bronze, Silver and Gold coins appear only during this feature and award 20, 40 or 80 coins respectively for three matching symbols.

Star spinatas also only appear during the Mini-Slot feature. Three stars award 5 free spins and each additional star symbol awards another free spin. Once free spins are in progress, this is the only time players will see the Colossal Wild, a symbol block of 3x3 symbols. The Colossal Wild substitutes all symbols except for the bonus.
