Net Entertainment has produced a number of games with different types of medieval themes, but they're so specific with the concepts they use that these titles in the sub-genre never feel like copies of each other. This is the case with the Fire Siege Fortress slot, a game that centers around an ongoing siege of a large castle.
As you would expect from a game with such a theme, the action is very intense, and there are several different types of features that drive the gameplay. This is on top of a format that's designed to give a ton of action in and of itself.
Slot Layout
On a fundamental level, the layout of this game is designed to give a high hit-rate. It's an "all ways" format title that uses five reels. Four symbols appear on the first, third and fifth reels, and three show up on the second and fourth reels. This creates a staggered grid of symbols that looks a lot like a castle wall, which is very fitting given the theme of the game.
You'll bet 20 coins at a base rate, but you can multiply that by a factor of up to 10. From there, you can change coin sizes to be worth from $0.01 to $1 each, and that means you can bet from $0.20 to $200 per turn with lots of different increments in between.
Scatters and the Free Spins Mode
A crown scatter symbol appears on the first, third and fifth reels, and they're responsible for some of the features. If you get all three on the reels at once, then you get free spins. Each scatter that appears on the top position on its respective reel awards six free spins, and the rest give three apiece.
If you only get two scatters on the reels at once, then you'll be given three free spins no matter where they appear. As an aside, you can also pick up an instant payout win worth five times your total bet size at random instead of three free spins in this case.
Wild Symbols and Features
Wilds appear on all reels, and they can count as multiple non-scatter symbols to make as many winning combinations as possible. However, they do not have their own winning combination payouts.
A wild on the bottom position of the second reel activates the Archer Attack feature, and that adds up to three random wilds to random positions on the reels.
The Dragon's Breath feature is activated when a wild lands on the bottom spot of the center reel. This expands that wild to cover the whole middle reel.
Finally, you can get the Trebuchet Assault feature. The trebuchet is basically the coolest siege weapon ever, so it's obvious that it had to make an important appearance. When you get a wild on the bottom position of the fourth reel, this feature activates, and that adds one or two giant wild symbols to the reels that take up multiple positions.
Wins and Payouts
The purple dragon is the top-paying symbol with 120x for five of a kind. Five of a kind combinations of the knight in red pays 100x. The purple sword symbol gives you 40x for five, and the same payout is awarded for five of the blue axe or green war hammer, so those payouts are pretty easy to remember.
It's the same sort of thing for the card rank symbols, which appear as different medieval banners. The green A, blue K, purple Q, purple J and dark purple 10 all get 20x for five of a kind combinations.
Overview
With Fire Siege Fortress, Net Entertainment has pulled together as much as they can to tie everything to the castle battle theme. Even the format of the game is designed to make the grid look like a castle wall, and it's completely full of different types of features.
The action from the format itself combines with the action from the feature set to create an experience that is very exciting. This was a must for a title that is literally about trying to have a battle to take down a giant castle structure. We see no place where NetEnt cut corners on this title, and we love what they did with this game as a whole and think it will appeal to most players.
