You're never going to hear anyone accuse the online slots industry have not having enough games based on Egyptian themes, and the Eye of Horus video slot available at Reel Time Gaming casinos is a good example of that. It uses a theme based on the Egyptian god Horus, whose symbol is a particular style of eye, and the gameplay is based mostly around the regular pay table. With that having been said, there's a moderate amount of action thanks to a somewhat unique spin on a popular bonus feature. This isn't the best-looking game out there, and as a result, it doesn't really break away from the pack of titles with the same type of theme.

Layout and Format

There are five vertical reels in this game that are separated by dotted, decorative lines. You'll see three rows of symbols across those reels, and there are numbers listed for 10 different paylines listed down the sides of the game. Betting varies from $0.10 to $10 per spin, and that's based on coin sizes that run from $0.01 to $1 apiece. You can't bet more than one coin on each line, but you do have the option to adjust the number of paylines that are activated. We highly suggest you keep this at the maximum of 10 so that the RTP stays as high as possible, which means better chances of winning with respect to your bet size.

Wild Ra Symbol

In Egyptian mythology, Ra is the sun god. He appears as a man with a bird head, and he's usually holding a staff in one hand and a figure called an ankh in the other. He's the wild symbol in this game, and he substitutes for everything but the scatter symbol. Something that's really important to note is that he always expands when he appears on the reels. That means that you'll get multiple wilds on the reels since it extend upward and downward to cover the entire reel it lands on.

Scatter Tomb Symbols

The tomb is the scatter in this slot. It's your chance to win some sizable payouts since you can get 50 times your total wager with five of them anywhere on the game board. Moreover, you'll win 20x for four or 2x for three. This symbol obviously appears on all five reels, and it's one of the most important symbols in the entire game.

Free Spins Feature

Three or more of the tomb symbol located anywhere on the reels is going to get you a set of 12 free spins. During these free spins, a wild symbol anywhere on the game board will upgrade the top five regular-paying symbols into the Eye of Horus symbol, which is in a tier all by itself at the top of the pay table. This makes it much easier to hit major payouts, and that obviously makes the free spins worth quite a bit more than their regular cousins.

Key Payouts and Symbol Set

The Eye of Horus symbol is golden and glows with a blue eye in the center, and it pays 50x for five of a kind. This is the highest-paying symbol in the game, and it ties with the scatter in terms of the largest win because all of the pays we're going to describe here are in terms of multiples of the total bet size.

You can score 40x for five of the jackal or 30x for five of the bird symbol. The scarab (blue beetle) gets you 25x, and the two ankh symbols pay 20x for five on an activated payline. You can also get 20x for the pair of fans.

The yellow A, red K, green Q and blue J symbols are each worth 10x for five of a kind in this game. As you can see from the distribution of payouts in this game, the pay table itself is pretty flat, and this contributes to a fairly smooth gameplay style with a low volatility and little in the way of large swings.

Overview

The Eye of Horus slot doesn't have the best presentation in the world, and we'll be the first to admit that. However, the gameplay is fairly strong with a low-volatility style of play that incorporates a high hit-rate. Reel Time Gaming also gets points for the cool twist on the free spins bonus feature with the multi-symbol substitution for the highest-paying regular symbol in the whole game. Overall, it doesn't stand out that much among the dozens of other Egyptian-themed games, but it was a good effort by this developer.
