You'll find a lot of games in the online slots industry that feature settings from a variety of countries. With the Mexico Wins slot, available at Booming Games casinos, you'll find that the setting is a small, quiet, Mexican town with a bit of a nightlife. Things are made very exciting with the straightforward graphics and particularly strong play style with multiple wild features, multiple ways to get multipliers and other goodies. Everything is designed to give an action-oriented style of gameplay that balances out the more relaxed general look and feel of the game.
Game Format
The format you'll find here has five reels and three rows, which is pretty standard for how these titles go. However, what's not so standard is that there are 30 paylines that pay in both directions. As you can imagine, this leads to a pretty substantial hit-rate because there are so many ways to get paid on each individual spin. If you keep all paylines activated, which you should because that's what keeps the RTP the highest it can be, then your overall betting range is $0.30 to $300 per turn, which includes plenty of available bet sizes that work for players at all levels.
Note that wins are determined by a multiple of how much you're betting on the whole spin, so the payments we discuss below are going to assume a bet size of $1.50. If you play for more or less money, then your prizes will be adjusted accordingly.
Wild Symbol Payouts and Features
The Aztec pyramid is the wild symbol, and you will be able to find it on every one of the five reels. Five of a kind of this wild gets you 10x, and that's a bit easier than you might think because it shows up stacked as well. Four of a kind is worth half as much at 5x, and you can also pick up 2.5x for three of a kind or 0.25x for just two of a kind.
You'll also see that a 3x symbol appears on the wilds sometimes. When that does happen, you'll have any winning combination that includes at least one 3x wild tripled in value. This is a pretty substantial feature, especially when it combines with the multiplier from the free spins mode.
Scattered Pinata Symbols and Free Spins
The best-paying symbol in this game is actually the scatter. It's a neon sign-style pinata that doubles as the free spins symbol, and five of a kind anywhere on the game board gets you a large 75x payout. Remember that this is multiplied by your whole wager. Four of a kind is worth 37.50, and three of a kind still gets you 7.50x.
No matter how many scatters you use to trigger this feature, you'll still pick up 10 free turns to start with. However, you can re-trigger it with three or more scatters to add on another 10 free spins as many times as you want. During this game mode, all wins are multiplied by three. This combines with the 3x wild multiplier to give players total multipliers of 9x, which is obviously a solid value.
Key Symbols and Payouts
There are three lucky sevens in green, white and red, and those colors were picked because they are the colors of the Mexican flag. Five of the green seven earns 7.5x, and five of the white gets you 6x. Those two symbols pay for two of a kind and up, but you need at least three for everything else. That includes the red seven, which you'll need five of a kind of to pay out 5x.
The hat symbol and the sugar skull get you 3.75x and 2.5x apiece for five. The maracas, drink and pepper pay 1x, 0.6x and 0.5x, respectively as well.
Our Thoughts
What has happened with this title is that Booming Games has put a neon sign twist on a Mexican town theme and added in a lot of exciting features to create a somewhat unique approach. It's a fun one, however, and it's definitely made in a way that will appeal to many. With that having been said, the volatility can be kind of all over the place with the multipliers that stack together, so that's something to keep in mind when you play. Overall, it's a solid game, and it shows that this developer can think a little outside of the box without getting too extreme with it.
