One of the things about Thunderkick is that they produce lots of games built around themes that they come up with themselves and that they produce in ways that really get you tied up in the experience. Their Yeti Battle of Greenhat Peak slot, available through Microgaming Quickfire as one of Thunderkick's content distribution partners, does this by creating some fun characters and showing their interactions. This brings you into the game yourself by making you feel involved with these characters in some way, which means you'll have a great time with the features and other goodies that this slot brings to the table.

    Game Layout

The layout for this title is a bit different than what you'll normally see because it doesn't have a standard number of lines. While the part with five vertical reels and three horizontal rows is normal enough, the fact that there are 11 fixed paylines is not that usual. However, to keep the betting amounts even, you'll wager total amounts per spin instead of per-line bets. This betting range is worth $0.10 to $100 per spin, and that minimum is definitely low enough to cater to basically anyone who would play while the maximum of $100 is large enough for even high rollers.

    The Wild Man Symbol

The goofy man in the green hat is the wild symbol. He shows up on all reels, and he does give you special wild-only payouts. You'll notice that he shows up completely frozen while making a hilarious face at times, and when this happens, it's because he's in place as a sticky wild. Sticky wilds normally stay in place until they're a part of a winning combination. However, they can also drop at the end of the free spins feature.

    Scatters, Free Spins and More

The golden carrot, of all things, is the scatter symbol, when you get at least three, you'll trigger a set of free spins. This gives you 10, 15 or 20 free spins based on setting up three, four or five of the scatter symbol. During this free spins feature, you'll be able to collect bonus symbols the move the meter at the bottom of the reels along. You'll also have sticky wilds that stay for the rest of the feature to give you better chances to win, and they can also give you extra free spins. You can end up with a maximum of 31 free spins at a time.

Just two of the carrot activates the Wild Attack feature. This basically adds up to three random wilds to the reels, and the ones that don't make up a winning combination become sticky until they are a part of a combination. The end result is that it forces extra wins for the player.

    Winning Combinations and Symbols

The wild symbols can earn players a 35x payout for five of a kind, and this is considered as a multiple of your overall amount wagered on the spin as a whole. Likewise, you can pick up 35x for five of the yeti symbol as well. The watermelon and lemon are up next, and they get players 15x and 10x, respectively, for five on a payline. From there, things drop to the 7.5x level for five of a kind.

Players also have five card rank symbols that can give them payouts in this game. The A will get you 3.5x for five of a kind, and five of the K symbol is worth a 3x prize. The payout for five of the Q is 2.5x, and lining up all of the J symbol on a payline gets you 2x..

    In Summary

One big thing about the Yeti Battle of Greenhat Peak slot that stands out compared to the vast majority of other slots is that the characters really come to life. The graphics are strong for what they are, which is typical of Thunderkick, but it's the gameplay combined with the characters that make this title as good as it is. The level of excitement stays pretty strong overall because of the chances for sticky wilds, and the free spins mode with the meter at the bottom of the reels is a lot of fun as well.

Overall, we maybe would have liked to see a bit more action during the regular mode, but the pay table is balanced enough that most of your wins will have some level of significance, and you don't have to worry about the bottom end of it being lopsided or anything like that.
