Something that's often seen as missing from most video slots is the ability to pick out which types of features you want and completely customize your experience overall. With Yggdrasil's Golden Fish Tank slot, you'll get a lot of options to customize the bonus feature at least, and they've taken things to a serious extent to give you a ton of value in that feature along those lines. If you're looking for a game that offers a high hit-rate and a level of customization in the feature that you don't normally see, then this is likely to be a good fit.

    Slot Layout and Format

The format of this video slot uses five reels and three rows, though you can't really see any physical reels. Instead, the symbols are floating in an underwater/coral reef type of background with bubbles popping up along the sides of the game. There are 20 paylines in this game, so the whole layout itself is pretty typical, but as you'll find out below, that's about the extent of how typical this game is compared to other video slots (read more).

As far as bet sizes go, you can start with coins at $0.01 that go up to $2.00 apiece. The 20 paylines are locked in, and you can't bet multiple coins on a payline, but you do have a Golden Bet side bet. This side bet costs five coins per spin, and it offers up an extra feature selection during the free spins bonus feature that we'll discuss below. Overall, it's hard to say if the Golden Bet option is worth it the cost, but it's definitely something to consider.

    Game Payouts

There are essentially two levels of symbols in this game, and Yggdrasil (more info) has done a great job with how they're stylized. There are four fish that make up the main pays. The green and yellow fish looking to the left pays 250x for five of a kind. There's also a blue, yellow and white fish looking to the left, and it will give you a similar win at 200x for five. The and green fish looking to the right pays 175x for five, and you can get 150x for five of the purple fish looking to the right.

The secondary symbols are based on the four suits that you see in a deck of cards. The heart symbol is red and pays 75x for five, and the spade is a dark purple that gives you a 60x win when you get five of a kind. The green club symbol and the deep blue diamond both pay out 50x for five of a kind.

In addition to these symbols, there are also wilds on the reels, but they do not have their own special set of payouts like they do in some slots. Because there are only eight paying symbols, it's easier to get winning combinations, and adding wilds to the situation only increases your hit-rate further.

    Free Spins Bonus Feature

The Golden Fish Tank's main fish is a golden fish, if you can imagine that, and it's the free spins scatter symbol that appears on all five reels. Three will get you six free spins with three feature picks, four gets eight free turns with four features to choose, and you get to choose five features with 10 free turns with five of this symbol.

You get to pick extra features for the reels during the free spins. You'll have an option for 2 or 4 extra free spins, stacked fish symbols, 1-2 random wilds per spin, a 2x multiplier on all wins, having one of the fish symbols act as a wild or a sticky wild added randomly to the reels during the entire feature.

Note if you add the Golden Bet side bet, you get an extra feature during this mode.

This game is a good example of thinking outside of the box a bit with how a bonus feature is handled, and it's also a great example of what you would think is a somewhat straightforward theme being given great graphics to make it extremely visually appealing. The bottom line is that this game is a great fit for slots fans who like a lot of action with a high hit-rate and a lot of value available in a bonus feature.
