We really like it when a company puts together slots that have different styles of features than what we're used to, especially if they're relatively unique spins on classic bonus rounds. Game Format

The format here is pretty straightforward. You'll have 40 total paylines that cannot be changed that extend across five reels of action. In a bit of a twist, there are only three rows, which is interesting considering that you normally see four with these other parameters. You can choose bet sizes per line that range from $0.01 to $2, meaning that your minimum wager is $0.40 per spin. That's pretty low, so most players will feel comfortable with at least some bet size that they have available. The highest bet you can make is $80 per spin, which is plenty enough for the vast majority of high rollers, and there are lots of other options in between.

Wild Symbols

The wild symbol for this game looks great. It has a red and gold presentation that just looks super aesthetically pleasing, and it also has some pretty good payouts. The top win is 2,500x when you get five of this symbol lined up on one of the 40 paylines. That's the top regular payout that this game has to offer as well. Four of a kind combinations get you 500x, and you can make it 250x for three of a kind. The wild also pays 50x for two of a kind provided that it couldn't be a part of a longer combination that would pay more. Along these lines, the largest single payout per payline is awarded in this game regardless of where the wilds fall.

Super Stacked Symbols

At the beginning of each spin, you'll have one of the non-wild, non-scatter symbols chosen at random to be stacked several spots high on every reel. This obviously increases your chances of getting several wins at the same time for that symbol, and it's a pretty big deal whenever you line up a few matching stacks at once.

This also ties into a multiplier feature. If you get at least three full stacks of the same symbol on the reels covering the entire reel, then all of your wins with that symbol will be multiplied by a random factor ranging from 2x to 8x. The available multipliers are 2x, 3x, 5x or 8x, and any of them will be a welcome addition to the multitude of payouts that you can get from having several reels show the same symbol.

Scatter Symbols and Free Spins

There's a scattered yin-yang symbol that looks gorgeous as well. It's gold and a darker gold on a blue and gold background, and it's used to give you free spins. This symbol only appears on the middle three reels, and when all three of them show up, you'll get a set of eight free turns.

During the free spins mode, one symbol is chosen to give left-to-right scatter pays as if it was a 243-ways style game. The payouts for that symbol will change slightly to drop down a bit, but you'll have chances to get some pretty tremendous prizes since that symbol is stacked the whole time as well.

Other Payouts and Prizes

The lotus flower symbol earns 100x for five, and the man on the green background earns 75x for five of a kind. Each of these pay for two of a kind, and the rest of the symbols require at least three. You can pick up wins of 50x for five of any of the other three character symbols (pig, monkey, bearded man), which are pretty reasonable prizes. All five of the card rank symbols pay out 25x for five as well. These are the purple A, the orange K, the yellow Q, the green J and the red 10 symbols.

In Summary

The feature set is what stands out the most in the Monkey's Journey slot by Platipus. While the graphics aren't bad at all, it's really the gameplay that brings this title alive. If you like a lot of action with features that are off of the beaten path, then this is a title that you should take a look at.
