Sometimes it can seem like everything that can be done has been done in the video slot world. StakeLogic slots try to break away from the normal trends in the industry to offer something a bit different, and that's the case with Midnight Rush. It does have a sort of horror theme, which has been done to death (pun intended) in the industry, but it comes at the whole thing from a different angle. You're out in a graveyard, and there are lots of graves and mummies and other related symbols. Add this to some fun features that add value, and you have a solid overall experience with this game.
Layout and Format
This game is laid out in a way to make the betting increments easier to see and understand. It has five reels and three rows of symbols, which is about as normal as it gets for a video slot. However, it uses 10 paylines, which makes all of the bet sizes even numbers, and that's something many players strongly prefer. You can bet up to 10 coins per payline for a maximum wager of 100 coins per spin, and those coins go from $0.01 to $0.50 apiece. This puts the minimum bet at $0.10 per turn and the maximum at $50.
Wild Symbols
There's a wild symbol that shows up on the first, second and third reels only. These wilds are called "expanded" in the pay table for Midnight Rush, but this means that they are stacked three symbols high. This is not the same as "expanding" wild symbols, and they should probably be more careful about how they choose their wording in the future since this could easily cause a player to be mistaken and upset whenever they don't get wins they thought they would have won otherwise.
Click Me Bonus Feature
The main bonus feature is kept pretty straightforward in this game, and it's designed to give you value and let you get back to your session instead of wasting time on a long, drawn-out feature. Get three or more of the Click Me symbols on the reels, and then pick from those symbols to reveal your prize. Your prize is revealed as a total win, and that just ends the feature with a nice prize and moves you along without slowing you down.
Random Multipliers
Players will see a multiplier meter in the top-left corner. This is often tied to cascade-style or avalanche-style features, but in this game, it works a little differently. At the beginning of each spin, you'll randomly be assigned a multiplier of 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x or 6x. You will have all of your wins multiplied by that figure for that spin, including those from the Click Me feature. This multiplier is a cool way of giving players chances to win larger wins than they would have picked up otherwise, and we like the simplicity of how it's used.
Top Payouts
There are a few top symbols that give the biggest pays in this game. Five of the werewolf earns 800x, and you can pick up 400x for five of the vampire. A score of 200x is waiting for you with five of the skeleton in the armor with a mace, and five of the mummy coming out of the coffin is good for a 100x win.
A few other pays are waiting with 75x for five of the A, 50x for five of the K and 40x for five of the Q. The J and 10 pay 30x and 20x, respectively. We think the use of the graves for the five card rank symbols makes a lot of sense, and it's a lot better than what many providers do in terms of just throwing together generic graphics for the A, K, Q, J and 10 symbols.
In Summary
Midnight Rush is a fun game with a horror theme that doesn't take itself too seriously, but it also doesn't cross over to the other extreme in terms of making itself look silly. It's a good balance towards the center, and it's the same with the features and pay table. You can get wins worth up to 4,800x thanks to the random multipliers, and the bonus features are handled well. Overall, this is a solid game that is above-average in most areas.
