For whatever reason, movies, television shows and books that feature a medieval fantasy theme have historically been very popular. Arrow's Edge has sought to take advantage of that popularity with their Game of Kings online slot. This game seems to be very loosely based on the concept of Game of Thrones, a popular television show, but there is no direct reference other than the theme and the wordplay in the name. To match the action that usually comes in various forms of media that use this setting, this game has been completely packed with features and payouts.
Format and Bet Sizing
This video slot uses 25 paylines with five reels and three rows. This is a very normal format, and Arrow's Edge tends to use basic formats like this instead of trying to trick players into being more interested than they should be with atypical formats.
Normally, players would choose a coin size and the number of coins they want to have on each payline. In this game, however, the bet sizing is much easier to determine. You have a single control that scrolls through the available bet sizes, and they vary from $0.25 to $250 per spin. This makes it easy to pick the exact bet size you want. Divide that bet size by 25 to get your effective coin size.
Top Symbols
A wild symbol of the good king (white hair and beard) and bad king (black hair and beard) shows up on the second and fourth reels only. This substitutes for all of the normal paying symbols, but it doesn't substitute for the scatter or the bonus symbols.
The top-paying symbol is the good king, and he'll give you a whooping 8,000x for five of a kind as the top prize in normal gameplay. The bad king pays 5,000x for five, which isn't far behind. Both of these symbols will pay for two of a kind, and they're the only symbols other than the scatters that do so.
The queen also shows up on the reels with a 500x win for five of a kind. Five of the evil sorceress will get you a 500x payout as well. While these payouts drop off after the jackpot and secondary jackpots, the rest of the payouts for five of a kind make for a pretty balanced pay table, and that's typical of Arrow's Edge slots.
Low-End Payouts
The lower payouts consist of the A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9 symbols. These are listed in gold, and they really fit the overall theme in terms of the visual appeal. The A and K pay 250x for five of a kind, and this is still a pretty sizable win for the minor symbols. It only drops to 200x for five of a kind in the Q or J symbols, which is also solid. Finally we have the 10 and 9 symbols, and each of these will get you a 100x win for five. It's cool to see that they didn't just drop the payouts off the side of a cliff for the low-end payouts.
Scatters and Bonus Symbols
The prince is the normal scatter in this game, and five of a kind gets you a win worth 200 times your entire bet. This is the same as a 5,000x line bet, so it ties for being the second-highest jackpot in the game (along with five of the black king). The scatters do not have to be positioned on left-to-right reels to pay, and you can win a 2x prize with just two.
The shield bonus symbols shows up on the second, third and fourth reels. Get all three on the reels at once to go to a bonus feature where you're in the middle of a siege. Picking your approach will give you an instant win that's randomly-chosen worth up to 50 times your total bet.
Pick up three or more scatters for the free spins bonus feature. The wild symbol expands in this game to give you a big multiplier on top of whatever multiplier you chose. You can get 12 free spins with a 2x multiplier (4x with wild), 8 free spins with 3x multiplier (9x for wild), or five free spins with a 4x multiplier (or a whooping 16x multiplier with the wilds). These multipliers give you chances for some absurdly large wins.
