Fishing is a pastime that you can see in all different cultures, and The Angler slot takes on a more traditional form of this activity. BetSoft has used some pretty high-level graphics, easily among the best in the industry, with this game, and you'll see tons of creatures from the water on the reels as a result. The fisherman himself is out on the pier to the left of the reels.

This game's pay table and payout structure is set up to be a relaxing experience, much like a day out fishing. It'll give you a moderate hit-rate with a low to medium volatility.

Game Format

This game is a 20-payline video slot with five reels and three rows. The reels themselves are partly transparent, which allows you to see the great view behind the game with mountains, a forest and water. The controls for the game are all beside of each other at the bottom-left corner, and you can pick coin sizes that start at $0.02 with the ability to wager up to five coins per payline. The largest coin size is $1, so the betting range is $0.40 to $100 per spin.

We want to point out that even though you have the option to play with fewer than the maximum of 20 paylines, we strongly suggest that you do not. If you need a smaller bet size, play with smaller coin sizes or fewer coins per line. Playing with less than 20 paylines lowers the RTP percentage of this game, resulting in worse payouts on average.

Free Spins Bonus Feature

On the last three reels, you'll sometimes see clam scatter symbols with a pearl inside. These symbols are good for getting a set of free spins if you get all three on the reels at the same time. Something that adds more value to this feature is that you can re-trigger them to add even more free turns.

During the free spins, you'll get clingy wilds, which are essentially sticky wilds. Get a wild anywhere on the reels, and it will stay in place during the remainder of the free spins. This makes it easier to hit winning combinations and makes these turns worth more than playing the regular game in this online slot.

Time to Fish Bonus Feature

On the first, second and third reels, you'll find a bucket full of fish as a bonus symbol. Get all three of these for a second screen bonus game that gives you a minimum win of 20x. You'll try to reel in fish, and the more you get, the better your final payoff is. Betsoft has made this feature fit in perfectly with the theme of the game, and it gives a good value as well.

Wilds and Top Payouts

The wild octopus shows up on the second, third, fourth and fifth reels. It doesn't have its own payouts, and it doesn't substitute for the bonus or scatter symbols. Along these lines, the highest-paying symbol is the fisherman, and he'll get you 350x for five of a kind. You can also score 200x for five of the hammerhead shark or 150x for five of an incredibly cute turtle. Players can pick up 150x for five of the green puffer fish too, and 75x is available for five of a kind of the small orange fish.

On the bottom end of the pay table are four card rank symbols. They have been stylized very well, and they fit in with the game without looking like they were lazily thrown together, which is the case with similar symbols in other games. The green A gets 75x for five, and the orange K is worth 50x for the same. Five of the purple Q or yellow J gets you 25x in this slot.

Our Thoughts

The visual appeal of The Angler slot is obvious, and it's up there with some of the best-looking games that BetSoft has ever produced with their 3D graphics that are characteristic of their Slots3 line. On the gameplay side, this title has several bonus features with a fair amount of depth, and the pay table is set up to give players a balanced, relaxing experience, which also fits the fishing theme. We think that players should give this game a try because it's a great example of all of the awesome things that this software company puts into their slots.
