Alien invaders have been used for a wide range of different types of media over several decades. Alien Spinvasion, however, is a different type of take on the topic. Instead of passively standing by, humanity is doing something about it, and it all plays out on the reels while you take your chances at profiting during it all. The graphics of this game are fun, though not necessarily top-tier in nature, and they do a good job of adding to the overall feel of the experience. Add that to decent gameplay, and you have a game that isn't bad at all.
Slot Format
Five reels, three rows and 50 paylines may be one of the top five or six most popular formats of all time in the video slot arena. With that having been said, it's an excellent layout for games that have a lot of action because you have so many ways to win without switching over to the "all ways" approach, and that's exactly what's needed in this game. Coins start down at the $0.01 level, so you can get in on the action for just $0.50 a spin, and they go up to $0.25 with the ability to bet up to 10 coins per payline as well. It's clear that the betting is very flexible in this video slot.
Sticky Wilds, Re-spins and Multipliers
The main gameplay mechanic is based on a combination of sticky wilds, free re-spins and multipliers on your total payouts. The way this works is that getting a sticky wild symbol on the reels triggers a free re-spin if it's a part of a winning combination. When this happens, not only do you get the re-spin with the wild still held in place, but a counter on the left-hand side of the reels will increase by one position to give you a higher multiplier. You can get multipliers worth up to 11x in this way (along with 2x, 5x and 7x), and this comes as the result of hitting several re-spins in a row on the same paid spin. It's an exciting way to give you chances to make larger payouts than you'd normally get.
Army General Free Spins
The human character that matters the most (besides the player, of course) is the army general. Whenever he shows up on the reels, you're immediately going to be awarded with a set of 11 free spins. This is the time to take it to the enemy and try to run up as much as you can for your winnings. While you lose the sticky wilds feature during the free spins, you gain another feature in its place. Every winning combination will lead to a re-spin with multipliers instead of having them based on the sticky wilds like in the normal game. The entire reel for every winning symbol will disappear to allow new symbols to fall in their place for the re-spins.
Important Payouts
Five of the earth symbol gives the largest regular payout in the game, and that's worth 250x. You can also earn 125x for five of the intergalactic telephone symbol. A win worth 100x is available in the free spins mode only for five rockets, but you can also earn 100x in either game mode for five of the alien egg. Five blasters pays out 75x as well, and it drops down to 50x for five of the meteor symbol. Rounding out the bottom of the pay table is the UFO symbol, which pays 33x for five on an activated payline, and the card rank symbols that give you chances for smaller prizes.
Overview
Rival Gaming has based this slot around gameplay, which is typical for them since graphics isn't always their strong suit. The game loads extremely quickly as a result, so there is a bit of a trade-off there. The gameplay in this title is above average with the two different approaches to the re-spin feature, which is something we can truly say we haven't seen before. Overall, it's not a bad game, but it's not quite enough to make it into the top tier of video slots due to the graphical style and limited depth in terms of the number of bonus features. With that having been said, it's a very solid, low-volatilty game.
