The traditional style of play for an online slot is generally taken for granted in terms of getting wins from left to right along specific lines. The ChilliPop video slot by BetSoft breaks the mold to a certain degree because you'll get wins in this game by collecting matching symbols in clusters instead.
This title uses a fun Mexican theme that centers primarily around a number of different animated peppers. This title uses 3-D graphics and a smart selection fo features to help keep the gameplay active and fast-paced.
Format and Clusters
At first look, it would be understandable to mistake this game as having a classic style of play. There are five vertical columns and three horizontal rows, so the first thing you might do is look for the number of paylines. However, there are no paylines in this game.
Other than the scatter pays, wins are determined by clusters. A cluster is a set of at least three matching symbols (including wilds) that touch each other vertically or horizontally. Note that they do not all have to be in the same line.
Players will be wagering 50 coins per spin for this game, and wins are multiples of your overall bet size. However, you can use coins that range from $0.01 to $1 apiece for a betting range of $0.50 at a minimum to $50 at a maximum on a per-spin basis.
Mules and Free Spins
The mule symbol is a scattered bonus symbol in this game. Whenever you get at least three anywhere on the game board at once, you'll get at least five free spins (and as many as 26) to kick off the bonus feature.
During this feature, you'll have a meter show up called the Mule Trail. You'll collect mules during the free spins mode, and though you cannot re-trigger the free spins, you'll instead have a chance to add rows and columns to the game board. You can get a maximum size of eight rows with eight reels for a 64-spot board that's more than four times the size of the starting game grid.
Special Wild Jackpots
Whenever you fill the game board with wild pinata symbols, you'll get a special prize. During the regular game mode, that prize is 50x. However, you'll also be able to pick up larger payouts for doing this on the larger game boards found during the free spins mode. For example, getting all 64 spots full with an eight-by-eight board can pay out 1,000 times your total bet size.
Note that these bonus wins are on top of the normal prizes that you would get for having the wilds substitute for as many symbols as needed to create as many winning possibilities as can be had on the current game board.
Other Wins and Payouts
There are eight peppers in this game that give you payouts. The wins are based on a price per pepper, so if you have a four-pepper cluster for a 5x prize per pepper, then that's a 20x win overall.
The orange lady pepper and the yellow crazy pepper each pay out 12x apiece. You can earn 7x for the purple one that looks like a goofy onion, and it's 6x apiece for the orange bell pepper. The red bell pepper also gives you 5x apiece.
Finally, the green bell pepper, the tomato and the onion stalk all give 2x apiece for your clusters. Since the clusters are three items at a minimum, that's 6x total wins at a minimum for this game.
Overview
The ChilliPop slot by BetSoft has a different style of payouts that leads to some pretty exciting gameplay. There's a high hit-rate here that comes from the cluster-based payouts, and the free spins mode only adds to that by giving you opportunities to expand the game board substantially.
In our time testing this game out, the majority of our regular wins came from clusters that included at least one wild, but the cool thing about that is that they can help you to get multiple clusters with the same symbol.
