The Asian theme used in the Matsuri online slot by MultiSlot is full of vibrant, if mediocre, graphics. There are all kinds of different symbols that tie into the Asian theme on the reels, and you'll find trees and a stylized building in the background. This game has a high volatility, and it's largely about trying to hit the wins on the upper end of the pay table. If you're used to low-volatility games, then you'll want to choose bet sizes that are smaller than what you're used to, if possible, when you play this game. This will help to cut down on the swings that are inherent with this style of gameplay.

Slot Layout

The layout of this game is as normal as they come. A total of 25 paylines are spread across five reels and three rows in this video slot. While you have the option to play with fewer than the maximum paylines, we don't recommend it because of how it brings down the RTP percentage. Bet sizing is always based on one coin per payline, and coins range from $0.05 to $1 apiece. This puts the betting range at $1.25 to $25 per spin. We think that the limited betting options are a bad thing, and it's clear that this is something that, when paired with the high volatility, will turn a ton of players off from this game.

Free Spins Bonus Feature

The main bonus feature in this game is a set of free spins. You earn this feature by getting three or more of the scattered bowl of rice on the reels. Three bowls earn a set of five free spins, and four of them will get you 15 free spins. You can earn the maximum of 25 free turns with five of the rice bowls located anywhere on the reels.

We're disappointed with how these free spins are handled because they are just like normal spins. There are no extra goodies like multipliers or a special reel set with this feature, and we really think they could have done a better job with this.

Jackpots and Big Payouts

The wild lion symbol is responsible for the largest jackpot in the game. You can score 5,000x for five of a kind with this symbol. You can also pick up a sizable win of 500x for four of a kind in the wilds. It's worth noting that the wild is the only symbol in the game that pays for just two of a kind.

Another reasonable jackpot is paid for five of the cherry blossom symbol. You'll get a 1,000x prize for lining that up, which is pretty solid considering that's larger than the best jackpot that you'll find in a lot of games. The wins start to drop off a bit from that point, however.

Other Notable Payouts

Five of the samurai symbol pays 400x, and you can earn 300x for five of the fan-wielding man in the mask. The woman with black hair gives 200x for five of a kind, and a 100x win is yours with five of the house. Five of the yellow letter symbol pays a solid 80x, and you can get 60x for five of the boat. The lanterns and ninja star symbols pay 50x and 40x, respectively.

As you can see from the pay table, most of the value in this game is centered towards the top-end payouts and some of the mid-range pays. This is a big part of the volatility that you find in this slot, and it's why you should limit your bet size to smooth out the swings as much as possible. That's made difficult by the $1.25 minimum bet size, which is a big disadvantage for this game.

In Summary

The bottom line is that this game is not the best work that MultiSlot has ever done, and it's average to below-average compared to games from other providers released with similar themes around the same time. The 5,000x and 1,000x top jackpots are nice, but they're the only thing that this game has going for itself. The bonus feature falls completely flat, and the graphics look like they were created at least a decade earlier. Overall, we can't really recommend this slot to players because there are at least a dozen other titles with a similar theme that do pretty much everything better than this game does.
