There have been magical themes used in online slots since the very beginning of the genre in the mid-1990s. One of the things that's cool about this type of motif for a slot game is that it gives the developers a lot of creative license in terms of the types of symbols, graphics and features that can be used. GAMING1 definitely used this creative license in the Mystic Charm slot, a game that has a sort of Native American magic theme. You'll find a very bright game with colors that come close to being neon in many instances, and that's something we can't remember having seen before from a magic-themed title.
Format and Layout
There's a very solid, basic format used with this game. It has five reels, three rows and 10 paylines. This helps to create a playing experience where you can actually keep up with every single payline available, which makes keeping up with your winning combinations as they unfold a fun way to enjoy the game. The available bet sizes go from $0.20 to $25 per spin, and since all of the wins are based on a multiple of your total bet size, you don't have to worry about keeping up with how many coins you're betting per payline or what the values are for individual coins.
Wild Symbol and Payouts
By far, the most important symbol in the game is the same woman who appears on the right-hand side of the reels. She is the wild symbol, and she's going to give you a significant amount of value because she substitutes for everything else in the game. She's also the key bonus symbol, but we'll cover that down below.
What is important to note now, however, is that even though this symbol gives you solid payouts, it does not give you the best payouts available in the game. GAMING1 has broken from what's considered the standard payout structure to change things up along these lines. Instead, the payout for five of the wilds comes to 200x, and for four, you can pick up 20x. The win for three of a kind is a simple 2x. Keep in mind that these are multiples of your total bet sizes, so you can multiply them by 10 (or simply add a zero) to find what the same level of line bet win would be.
Free Spins Bonus Feature
Like most video slots, Mystic Charm has a free spins bonus feature. It's triggered by getting three or more of the wild woman symbol. The key to this feature is that it's exactly what it sounds like: free spins and not much else. There are no multipliers or special reel sets. While this might sound like a downer to begin with, the fact of the matter is that it helps to give players a bonus feature without tying up too much value, which helps the volatility to stay down at a reasonable level.
Top-Tier Payouts
You can get higher end payouts with four symbols. Each of these four symbols will pay out as long as you line up two or more on an activated payline. The white horse is the highest-paying symbol in the game, and five of a kind earns a solid 500x jackpot. Keep in mind that this would be 5,000x if this game used normal line bet listings for their wins. You can score 200x for five of the potion symbol as well. The purple medallion and the feathered ornament pay 75x each for five on an activated payline.
Low-Level Wins
To give players more small and medium-sized wins, five of the card rank symbols were used for the low-end payouts. You can earn 15x for five of the yellow A or orange K symbols. Likewise, a 10x win is yours for five of a kind of the green Q, blue J or purple 10.
Overview
There's no denying that this isn't the best-looking game out there. The graphics aren't necessarily bad, but to say that they are above-average in the current state of the industry would also be a stretch. GAMING1 seems to have focused more on gameplay with Mystic Charm than visual appeal, but even the gameplay is average with just one bonus feature that doesn't actually provide that much value. Overall, we could take or leave this slot, and you aren't going to miss anything if you decide to skip it.
