There is an abundance of wild cards in the game of Deuces & Joker; five, to be exact, making this one of the "wildest" of all video poker games, if you pardon the pun. The deck has 53 cards in it, because of the presence of a joker. There are five wild cards - the joker, of course, plus all four deuces (2's) in the deck.

The game follows standard procedure, in that the player is dealt five cards initially, and can choose to hold or discard as many cards as is necessary to move toward the objective of a winning hand. Unlike many games, however, there is no payout on a pair of Jacks or better or on two pairs either; that is because the wild cards would make it too easy. Here is the pay table, based on a maximum five-unit bet:

  • Royal Flush -- 4000
  • Straight Flush -- 30
  • 4 of a Kind -- 15
  • Full House -- 15
  • Flush -- 15
  • Straight -- 10
  • 3 of a Kind -- 5

There are several additional payout categories, that are of course achieved with the use of a wild card -- Five of a Kind (45 coins), Wild Royal Flush (60), Four Deuces (125), and Four Deuces and a Joker, which pays out at 10,000 coins, but only if a maximum bet is placed. Otherwise, it reverts back to Five of a Kind, which is fifth on the pay scale. The Royal Flush pays 4000 on the maximum bet, and only 250 with a one-unit play. Certainly in this game it is of particular importance to have the maximum bet out there.

If you notice about the pay table, the payouts are kind of top-heavy. In other words, they are comparatively very small toward the bottom of the scale and get very big in the bonus areas and at the top. You will generally not get paid often in this game, but if you're fortunate enough to stick around and catch some wild cards, it can be well worth your while.
