Super heroes have been themes for online slots for a particularly long time, and NextGen has made their own game with this type of theme. Justice League features the biggest group of superheroes from DC Comics, and it offers them up with comic book-like animation with the main city of Metropolis in the background. This is a solid game that's based on a lot of action and a lot of features, and this causes it to have an above-average volatility. We recommend that players use bet sizes that are a bit smaller than what they might be used to (if applicable) to get a feel for the swings before playing at your normal stakes.
Format and Layout
This slot uses five reels, three rows and 25 paylines. This is pretty much in line with the most common video slot layouts out there, and there's nothing wrong with that. In terms of betting, there's a really atypical situation here where everything is based on bet sizes of 30 coins. We can't remember having ever seen this type of situation before, but the minimum coin size is $0.01 for a minimum bet size of $0.30 per spin. Likewise, players have a maximum coin size of $2.00 available for a total bet of $60 per spin on the higher end of things, which makes this game suitable for penny players and high rollers.
Wild Symbols and Scatters
The wild symbol consists of the entire team together, and it shows up on the middle three reels. It does not have its own payouts because of this. Also showing up on the center three reels only are the Daily Planet scattered bonus symbols, and they pay 60x for three of a kind anywhere on those three reels. This arrangement for the wilds and scatters means that most of the action is going to happen on the center three reels of this game, which is important since it tells you where to focus when the reels are spinning.
Various Features
NextGen has completely jam-packed this game with features. The first is the Wild Rescue feature, and the way this works is that on every single spin, there's a chance that a symbol on one of the middle three reels will randomly transform into a wild. This is essentially an extra wild feature, and it gives a good value since you end up hitting winning combinations with it that you wouldn't have reached otherwise.
The Super Hero Power-Up feature drives a lot of the action too, but it centers around the first reel. Whenever you get the entire first reel full of the same superhero, and it's also used in at least one winning combination, then the fifth reel becomes a duplicate of the first for added wins. On top of that, every one of the relevant superhero and wild symbols that are on the reels are locked in place for a free re-spin. Each new wild or superhero that shows up triggers yet another re-spin, and this means you're going to have a chance to get paid repeatedly in this slot during this feature.
Finally, we have the Attack on Metropolis feature. This is awarded when you get three of the scattered bonus symbols, and it's a set of 10 free spins with chances for extra free spins, extra wilds and Super Hero Spins. Super Hero Spins force the first and last reels to always be full of the same superhero, and the wilds become wild multipliers worth up to 10x.
Top Pays
The main payouts in this game are based on the three main members of the Justice League. Superman pays 300x for five of a kind, Batman pays 120x for five, and five of Wonder Woman gets you a 90x pay. These might seem like fairly low wins, but with multipliers as high as 10x and the opportunity to get several re-spins along with the wild features, they are plenty large enough to give players some significant value.
In Summary
Justice League delivers in a major way, and NextGen has done a great job with putting together a slot that captures all of the action of the comics. We can't really find anything about this game that we would have changed, from the visual appeal to the gameplay itself, and having it be so feature-driven is really the blueprint that should be followed in the future for superhero games.
