The Prohibition Era in the United States was a period during which the sale and possession of alcoholic beverages was illegal. A lot of organized crime sprang up to meet the resulting demand for adult drinks, and one of those was Al Capone, the man after which this online slot by Slotmotion is named.

From a visual standpoint, they have captured a lot of elements of this era, especially with the gambling motif since illegal gambling joints were commonly the same places where people could get a drink. This combination lends itself to some excitement as well.

Format and Layout

A layout is used in this game that offers a very smooth and controlled style of gameplay with a lot of options for players. This has five reels, three rows and nine paylines, and what that does is put players in a position where they can really customize their bet size down to a fairly precise level. It's worth noting that these lines are locked in place, so you can't really change them.

Players have the opportunity to place their wagers with coins that go from the $0.01 level up to $0.50 apiece, and this means that this title has a minimum bet size of $0.09 per turn. That clearly fits inside of any bankroll. However, you can also set it so that as many as four coins are being bet on each payline. The maximum resulting bet from this is $18 per spin. This will satisfy virtually all players, but high rollers may wish for some available sizes that were a bit larger.

Note that all wins that we describe here are based on the minimum bet size. You can scale payouts upward proportionately based on the bet size you prefer to use.

Wild Al Capone Symbol

The man that the game is named after is also the wild symbol. He appears on all five reels in both the regular and free spins modes, and he's responsible for giving players some significant payouts. Five of a kind gets you 15x, and four of a kind is worth 1.5x. You can also earn 0.25x for three. Aside from helping players to get wins they would have otherwise not been awarded, this symbol is even more important during the free spins mode. It substitutes for anything except the scatter.

Scattered Safe Vault Symbol

The black and gold safe vault with lots of cash inside is scattered. Five of a kind gives you the best individual payout that you can get of 25x. Four of a kind scores a much lower 0.25x, and three is worth 0.04. You can even pick up a 0.02x win for just two of a kind anywhere on the game board. These symbols don't have to appear on any specific reels or in any specific position or order to award these prizes.

Free Spins Bonus Round

Three or more scatter symbols give you a set of 10 free spins with a wild symbol locked in the middle. The symbol set changes a bit to include a police officer symbol. If you get a winning combination with any cop symbols on the screen, they are turned into corrupt cops, and you'll get a free re-spin with all of the corrupt cops held in place. Win with a corrupt cop combination, and a giant 3x3 wild symbol will cover the middle three reels for enormous chances for payouts. Get another corrupt cop combination after that before the game mode is over to trigger a huge 5x3 wild instead, which awards a tremendous overall prize.

Winning Combinations and Payouts

The money roll is worth 10x for five, and five of the jug of moonshine pays out 7.5x. Players can earn 4x for the blonde girl, and the roulette wheel and box of cigars pay 3x and 2x, respectively. Five golden card ranks make up the bottom end of the pay table with wins ranging from 1x for five of the A to 0.25x for five of the 9 symbol.

Overview

The Al Capone slot by Slotmotion is a fun example of a game built around one main feature that provides some opportunities for a massive value. With that having been said, the rest of the game has a fairly balanced pay schedule, and that helps to smooth out the volatility at a medium overall level.
