It is no secret that Ancient Egypt and everything related to it is one of the most popular themes in the world of slot games. We’ve seen all kinds of games in this genre…
…but rarely do they stand out like Book of Bob does!
Needless to say, Mighty Finger took a different approach to the mysteries of Ancient Egypt – one that doesn’t take itself seriously!
With that said, the game is still fun, offers potentially lucrative features and generally has the potential to make someone’s day.
A Theme that Doesn’t Take Itself Seriously
The Book of Bob is one of those titles that go against the grain. This slot almost makes fun of numerous Book of Ra Deluxe clones, which it certainly is as well. You’ve probably seen….
…a dozen or so variations of Book of Something releases that are still trying to capitalize on what Novomatic absolutely nailed with their original game.
Compared to all of those try-hard slots, some good and some not so good, Book of Bob brings a fun theme that introduces a cartoonish aesthetic and goofy characters all around. From a…
…purely aesthetic point of view, this title is fun to play. The colors are easy on the eyes and everything just fits in.
Symbol Design
Mighty Finger’s take on Ancient Egyptian symbols is twofold. They’ve taken the path of least resistance for the lower-paying deck and went with the all-too-familiar card royals. The higher-paying…
…deck of symbols is considerably more interesting.
This is where we find the goofy explorer Bob, the equally goofy depiction of a pharaoh, an Ankh and several other symbols. As always, there’s the Book of, well Bob in this case, which serves…
…both as a Scatter and a Wild symbol
Betting Options and Functions
The game, much like others based on the Book of Ra, runs on a 5x3 reel grid and 10 fixed paylines. The studio behind this release went with an estimated RTP of 95.1%. Overall, the metrics…
…are pretty well known and Mighty Finger did nothing, in particular, to stand out in this regard. One area of game design we can definitely praise is the UI design.
The team who put it together went with a clutter-free design that puts the Spin and Auto Spin button on the far right side of the reels, while the bottom left corner of the reels is where you’ll find the menu button.
They’ve then added a smaller, much subtler menu bar at the very bottom where you can manage your bets.
Special Features
As far as special features go, this slot game is all about the core principles that made the Book of Ra special in the first place.
That means you’re getting a very limited set of features. Aside from the Wild symbol that is also the Scatter, there is the…
…Bonus Spin mode and the Special Expanding Symbol. Bonus Spin mode is triggered when anywhere from 3 to 5 scatters are drawn and are capped at 30 bonus spins.
It’s also not possible to retrigger the Bonus Spin mode while you’re in it. The Special Expanding Symbol feature…
…is activated before the bonus spin mode and randomly selects one of the high-value symbols, turning it into an expanding symbol.
Our Take
Mighty Finger take on the genre with the Book of Bob definitely stands out. It’s a fun game whose cartoonish style has a value of its own.
However, it is nothing more than another crafty clone of Book of Ra. That’s not a bad thing, but we definitely wish that the slot provider behind this title introduced at least some innovation to the genre.
