The two main things that come together to form a player's experience with a slot is the visual presentation and the gameplay elements. The Le Chef slot is a game you can find at Magnet Gaming casinos that offers a solid combination of both. It uses feature-driven gameplay with a more exciting approach than you typically see from classic-style slots. The graphics are also great with a high-quality, 2D style that fits the motif very well with lots of different dishes and bonus symbols to go along with the cooking theme and kitchen setting.

A Different Type of Layout

When you see a game with three vertical reels, you immediately think classic slot, and most people immediately think of something that's boring. That's not the case here. While there are three vertical columns and three horizontal rows of symbols, there are actually eight ways to win. There are three vertical lines, three horizontal lines and two diagonal lines that cover the grid of symbols for a total of eight paylines. That gives you more ways to win than you'd normally get in a game with this type of layout.

Betting is set up so that you can pick a coin size that starts at $0.01, but you're always betting 10 coins per spin. You can multiply that by a factor of up to 20 to help customize your bet size as well.

Pick a Dish Feature

In the Pick a Dish feature that you activate with three of the pick a dish symbols on a line, you'll be taken to a second screen with a selection of different plates to pick from. You get three chances to win between 100x and 400x your total wager. You'll then be given a few free spins on top of that, so it's a pretty solid feature that gives you some real value while sticking to the theme of the game.

Bon Appetit Feature

Get three of the Bon Appetit symbols in a row, and you'll be taken to a feature where there are four tables with a server running around between them trying to serve different dishes that have different values. A die will roll in the middle that gives you credit wins each time with bonuses for serving players the right dish at the right table.

The Food Critic Bonus

Three of the Food Critic symbol in a row activates the Food Critic bonus round. The basic idea is that you're picking foods from a 3x3 grid at random. You'll either get a star or a frowning face. The more stars you get, the better the payouts are. You can move up through different courses to get even more payouts, and the more frowns you get, the lower your wins. You'll get some decent payouts in this bonus feature, however, because it's really hard to walk away with nothing with the way it's designed.

Kitchen Time Bonus Round

The fourth and final feature is triggered by getting three of the kitchen time symbol on the same payline. You can either sell soup or wash dishes in this feature, and it's basically a randomized feature where you see the reels play through over and over with free spins that add up payouts. The only difference is that you get rewarded for symbols that appear in different configurations instead of strictly on the paylines, which means more value.

Jackpots and Other Payouts

In each of the bonus features, you have a chance to trigger a round to play for the jackpot or super jackpots, two progressives that are the largest pays in the game. Aside from that, there are other six paying symbols. The lobsters get you 150x for three, and that drops to 100x for three of the chicken symbol. Three of the slice of cake is worth 50x, and you can earn 25x for three of the wedge of cheese. The soup and bread round out the bottom end of the pay table with wins worth 15x and 10x, respectively.

Our Thoughts

A lot of three-reel games catch a lot of flack for being boring or not being as exciting as their video slot cousins. The Le Chef slot by Magnet Gaming avoids the stereotypes that go along with three-reel titles by boosting the number of ways to get paid to eight, introducing two progressive jackpots and giving players four different bonus features that they can activate on any given spin.

This is a feature-driven classic slot, first and foremost, so it's not going to be for everyone. However, even players who tend to prefer five-reel games may find that they enjoy this particular title in spite of its format because of how the gameplay is set up around the features and lots of chances to win.
