There have been a number of slots in the past to use candy-based themes, and the Candyland game by AGames falls into this sub-genre. As far as video slots go, this is not the most aesthetically pleasing game out there, but it doesn't try to be. Instead, it focuses on providing a specific type of gameplay that will appear to a certain niche of players.

In short, the gameplay focuses on a number of wild symbols that give opportunities for bonus rounds and lots of ways to get extra payouts for a high hit-rate and medium-volatility style of play.

Game Layout

Five reels and three rows make up the basic grid of symbols here, and there are 10 paylines available as well. Players can't change how many paylines are activated, not that you would want to in the first place, and they only pay from left to right. Betting gives you coins that go from $0.01 to $1 apiece and the ability to wager one to ten coins on each of those lines. That makes the minimum bet worth ten of the $0.01 coins for a total of $0.10, and it makes the maximum a total of 100 of the $1 coins, which is worth $100 per spin.

Triple Wild Symbols

There are three regular wild symbols in this game. They are three different types of soda bottles, and they come in green, cherry and orange flavors. They will help you to get extra payouts by substituting for whatever will give you the best possible win on each individual line, and they can substitute for different symbols for different lines at the same time as well. The only thing these symbols do not substitute for are bonus symbols, which is interesting because those bonus symbols actually come in the form of a different types of wild.

Stacked Wild Bonus Symbols and Free Spins

Three more wilds show up as well, and they're the same bottles from a different angle so that they appear in stacks of three. They work as result wilds like the above, but they also give you a chance for free spins when you get the entire bottle on the reels at once. One of them on the screen gives seven free turns with a 2x multiplier. If you pick up two entire bottles on the screen at the same time, then players are awarded seven free spins with a 3x multiplier. Finally, all three bottles completely on the screen at once will give you a big score with seven free spins with a huge multiplier worth 4x.

Note that you cannot re-trigger this bonus feature.

Other Symbols and Winning Combinations

During the base game, the best payout comes from the red and white swirl lollipop symbol. Five of a kind of this one gives you a 1,000x top jackpot. Next up is the pink donut with sprinkles, and it's worth a payout of 500x for five of a kind lined up on a payline. The ice cream bar with chocolate on the outside and a stick gets players 200x wins for five, and five of a kind combos of the candycane symbol gets you wins of 100x.

Four different card rank symbols show up as the bottom half of the regular pay table. They're designed to look like various hard candies, and that fits the overall theme extremely well. The orange A symbol is obviously the best of the bunch, of five of it on a line gets you a 50x win. Things drop down to 35x for five of a kind of the pink K symbol, and you can also win 25x for five of a kind of the green Q. The blue J is the lowest-paying symbol in the game with a 10x prize for five.

In Summary

This title is fairly mediocre outside of the way that the bonus features are handled. With a game like Candyland that's based on such a genre and often-used theme, AGames needed to really go to the next level with presentation and gameplay if they wanted to stand out, and simply put, they really didn't here.

With that having been said, there are some things that are enjoyable about this game. The free spins mode is a lot of fun, and the wilds combined with stacked wilds during the regular game are fun as well because of the higher hit-rate and excitement that they bring to the table.
