National Heads-Up Poker Championship Revived on NBC
After a one-year hiatus, the National Heads-Up Poker Championship returns to NBC in full flourish. With the first episode set to air on March 19th at 9pm EST, the NCAA-style bracket tournament will include 64 internationally known poker players and celebrities. These tournament is exclusively invite-only, and with the $20,000 buy-in, only those serious about winning will be in attendance.
The 2013 Championship is the first tournament to be aired since NBC decided not to renew the poker series after seven successful years. The two major backers of the event, PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker, were entwined with Department of Justice indictments on the infamous Black Friday affair, resulting in their explusion from the US.
The rest, as they say, is history. And now it appears the US is ready for another televised poker tournament on a major network. This could signal the health and potential of online poker in the United States.
