Many people wouldn't think about gardening and online slots being put together in the same sentence, but Magnet Gaming has thought a bit outside of the box to bring you the Homegrown slot. It uses an older format in a very smart way with a style of drawn graphics that looks great, and it's all about a woman and her seemingly insane chicken looking to see what grows in her garden. While her yard could definitely use mowing, the prizes that you can win on the game board are definitely something that isn't trimmed down.

We want to note that if you want to play this game, then playing from a Microgaming Quickfire casino is your best bet since Magnet Gaming's titles are available through that platform, including this one.

Game Layout

The layout here is a bit different than most, so you'll want to pay attention before you start playing. There are three vertical columns and three horizontal rows. However, each spot on this grid spins independently of each other. Along these lines, there are three horizontal paylines, three vertical paylines and two horizontal paylines for a total of eight. You won't have to worry about atypical bet sizes, however, because everything runs from $0.10 to $4 per turn. The maximum is a bit on the low side, but most players who would enjoy this game won't mind because most larger bets are for high rollers, which are a small minority of those who play online slots.

Re-spin Feature

Any win gives you a re-spin with an increasing multiplier that goes from 1x to 2x, 3x and 5x. All symbols re-spin to give you more opportunities to get paid. String together a few pays in a row, and you can make it up to the highest multiplier of 5x for however many spins it takes for you to have a turn that doesn't get any kind of payout.

Game Flash Feature

Get three of the Game Flash symbol to activate the Game Flash feature (naturally). You'll move over to the inside of the house with a chance to win instant payouts or chances to win plays on the other bonus features. It's a fun way to mix things up while still giving you more ways to get paid.

Flower Game

Three of the Flower Game symbols put you over into the Flower Game itself. You'll get 25 free spins, and you'll collect flowers from the game grid that appear on a list to the right. The more you pick up, the better chances you have of taking down instant payouts. Get enough, and you can trigger one of the two progressive jackpots with instant wins worth up to 300x.

Snail Hunt Feature

When you get three of the Snail Hunt symbols, then it's time for the chicken to shine. He'll go through a yard maze while trying to catch a snail via rolling a die. The more snails you get, the better prizes you pick up, and you can win the progressive jackpots in this feature as well.

Apple Picking Bonus Round

Finally, three of the Pick Apples symbol takes you over to a giant apple tree. You'll pick apples from it to reveal instant wins and chances to earn the progressive jackpots. Your crazy little chicken friend will watch on as you pick, as unnerving as that can be.

Payouts and Symbols

There's a good spread of payouts on the rest of the regular pay table. Three of the pumpkin pays 1,500x, and you can also win a solid 1,000x for three of a kind of the sunflower symbol. The cauliflower gets you 750x, and the purple flower is worth 500x for three. The tomato, daisy and lettuce all get you 300x, 200x and 100x, respectively. As you can tell, there are serious prizes available on the pay table and from the features, but all of these wins are a multiple of your total bet size.

Overview

We like how Magnet Gaming handled the gardening theme in this title without using the typical format that you see from most slots that have a modern feel. This format allowed them to use a visual style and approach that really fits the overall theme, and that's the kind of thing that players really like to see overall because it makes games like this one stand out from the rest. The bottom line is that this is an action-packed game despite the theme and the three-by-three format, so if you like most video slots, then give this one a try.
