Play’n GO, recognized as a prominent entity in the online gaming industry, is making strides on a global stage by taking part in a major international gathering focused on setting new global guidelines for gambling. At the recently commenced G7 Leaders Summit in Calgary, Alberta, Play’n GO stands out as the exclusive software provider invited to join the discussions at the inaugural Global Forum on Responsible Gaming and Gambling Policy. This forum marks the beginning of a wider initiative that will see Play’n GO actively contributing ideas at other significant assemblies such as the G20 and the United Nations General Assembly later in the year.
Driving Responsible Gaming Dialogues
The first of the series of events launched on June 13 during the G7 Summit. Here, Shawn Fluharty, who oversees Government Affairs at Play’n GO, took the initiative, opening and leading sessions involving various high-profile delegates. These included policymakers, regulatory figures, experts in neuroscience, and health professionals, all collaborating to dissect the connections between gambling practices and mental health. These insights aim to shape future international regulatory frameworks, ensuring they are informed by real-world expertise.
Fluharty underlined the company’s pivotal role, noting, “Being the only online gaming supplier at the G7, G20, and UN policy forums carries a responsibility to bring real-world insight into high-level discussions. Working hand-in-hand with lawmakers, regulators, and public-health experts makes it possible to craft global standards that protect players, eliminate unlicensed risks, and foster sustainable innovation across regulated markets, something Play’n GO is fully committed to.”
He further emphasized the significance of prioritizing responsible gaming at these esteemed policy platforms, indicating it is crucial for regulations to evolve in tandem with the rapid pace of technological advancements, thereby ensuring consumers are safeguarded.
Promoting Safe and Regulated Gaming Practices
The involvement of Play’n GO in these global forums further cements its leadership position in advocating responsible gaming. The firm has historically been at the forefront of implementing progressive strategies, including the pioneering decision to eliminate bonus buy features from its offerings before regulatory guidelines were established by authorities like the UK Gambling Commission and the Netherlands' Kansspelautoriteit (KSA).
Earlier in the year, Johan Törnqvist, CEO of Play’n GO, reiterated their dedication to regulated ecosystems by declaring that the company would abstain from providing games to sweepstakes-based casinos. He clarified, “Sweepstakes casinos do not operate inside a regulated framework and that’s not something we support. Our commitment to regulated markets is absolute.”
Fluharty reiterated these concerns, cautioning against sweepstake casinos as threats to the established regulated market models. He warned that collaboration with such entities could potentially result in exclusion from future regulated market opportunities.
As Play’n GO assumes its leadership role in these international policy dialogues, the aim is to craft a series of informed recommendations. These proposals are intended to shape the future standards for global gambling practices and are set to be submitted through suitable policy channels to systematically guide both national and international gaming industry standards towards enhanced public health and progressive innovation.
