888 Casino Re-Launches in Netherlands with ComeOn Group

After a nearly four-year hiatus, 888 Casino is making its way back into the Dutch online gaming landscape. This re-entry is enabled by a newly formed partnership with ComeOn Group. The collaborative effort will see ComeOn managing the 888.nl platform under a Dutch license, thereby providing a full spectrum of online casino and sports betting services to Dutch players.

ComeOn Group's Role in Operating 888.nl

Under the new agreement, ComeOn Group will oversee the operations of the Dutch-facing 888 platform employing its proprietary casino and sportsbook technologies. The aim of this collaboration is to present Dutch players with a highly engaging experience. This experience will feature an extensive selection of slots, exclusive casino games, competitive sportsbook odds, and vibrant live dealer games. Juergen Reutter, the CEO of ComeOn Group, expressed his thoughts on the initiative: “evoke is one of the biggest betting and gaming companies in our industry, and we are honoured to be entrusted with the operation of 888, one of the most iconic consumer brands in gaming. Our proprietary technology, strong market expertise, and commitment to responsible gaming will ensure that Dutch players enjoy a best-in-class experience with the 888 brand.”

Challenges and Opportunities in the Dutch Market

The renewed entry of 888 marks the company's return to the Netherlands after they exited in October 2021 due to the country's transition to a regulated online gaming framework. Previously, Dutch operations comprised around 3% of 888’s total revenue. However, with ComeOn Group's operational strengths and local expertise, the brand is set for a promising relaunch. Davide Marchisio, Director of Corporate Development at evoke, detailed the strategy behind this venture, stating: “888 is an incredibly strong global brand, and partnering with a world-class operator gives us the opportunity to provide the amazing 888 experience to our Dutch fans. We are excited about launching 888 to Dutch customers and further expanding into regulated markets with a high-impact, low-capital partnership aligned to evoke’s strategy.” The Dutch gambling market is experiencing shifts due, in part, to rising competition and increasing regulatory pressures. Specifically, the gross gaming revenue (GGR) tax rate increased from 30.5% to 34.2% as of January 1, 2025, with a planned rise to 37.8% in 2026. This has already led some brands, like LiveScore Bet and Flutter-owned Tombola, to exit the market. Despite these hurdles, 888 and ComeOn Group remain optimistic about their prospects. By leveraging a strong local license and comprehensive platform, the collaboration aspires to recapture Dutch players while staying compliant with evolving regulations. Financially, this move aligns with Evoke's recent trading update, which forecasts a 5% year-over-year revenue growth for Q2. The company reported a 6% increase in online revenue as a key factor and noted a return to growth in its retail segment. Overall, group revenue for the first half of the year is projected to rise by 3% compared to the same timeframe from the previous year.
