The pro online gambling forces have a new battle warrior to help in the fray. On Friday, Florida Governor Charlie Crist appointed George Lemieux to the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Mel Martinez. In 2007, LeMieux helped governor Crist iron out a gambling pact with the Seminole Indians in Florida. That pact was eventually struck down by the Florida State Supreme Court. The compact talks were restarted earlier this year and LeMieux has helped spear head the negotiations. The deadline to complete the compact is this Monday.
LeMieux will now carry his pro-gambling stance to the halls of the U.S. Senate, where he will join forces with Senator Robert Menendez of New Jersey and Representative Barney Frank, of Massachusetts. The core of pro-gambling senators and representatives is growing in Washington, and the addition of Senator George LeMieux can only strengthen their cause.
